2K Ex broke down Near Austin- Turbo O Rings

I'm closer, but I'm afraid I'm not going to be much use. I have had the turbo pedestal go one me. Ours was part of the original 2001 casting defect recall. As I remember it, it dumped more oil into the intercooler than down the back of the engine. The dealer didn't fix it correctly, and we...

    2006?!?!?

I got the "My Ford" magazine in the mail today. Basicly a big personalized ad for the 2006 line up of Ford vehicles. Their computer seems to think I'm a potential F-150 buyer... So much for personalized market research, eh? :roflmao Anyhow... Guess what I found in the 2006 lineup? Yep. The...

What speed are you towing at?

65 most of the time. Except in Arizona, where the needle creeps up a bit. Accidentally hit 80 going down I-8 from Gila Bend to Eloy last year.

What do you wish someone made?

Photon Torpedos. :thumbs I'd like to see a Pullrite or Hensly hitch that doesn't cost quite so much. I'm guessing there's a patent clock running on these. A complete on-board air kit would be nice. An "Open Source" OBDII reader & diagnostic software kit with a homebrew...

    Yaesu vs Icom radios

M'oi? I've never had any trouble. Well... I'm going to leave the MCS-51 development gear, eprom programmer, & wire wrap tools at home. I don't think I'll need to build a custom PCM on the side of the road. I hope. Actually... I'll probably just nab the 2m and go...

    RV sat dish?

I haven't got around to putting together a receiver dish for my trailer yet. (Yep JV I lied to you... :sorry ) I'm going to throw one of my receivers in the rig before I leave, and I figure I'll find a dish somewhere along the way if I get desperate for non-OTA TV. Provided I don't find...

    Yaesu vs Icom radios

I use Yaesu on HF, and Alinco on VHF/UHF. Yea... I'm cheap. I always have trouble getting funding approval from the boss for radio stuff. :dunno Icom makes good kit, as does Yaesu. My Alinco is 15 years old, and still going.

    Prep for X-country

The rig is ready. I've been sick as a dog since Sunday. I ended up taking it over to the local dealer. Had the tranny flushed, oil changed, radiator flushed, swapped oil in both diffs, and changed the fuel filter. More than $200 cheaper than the last time I had all this done, which was...

    Wilson 5000 antenna?

Mag mount antennas usually perform reasonably well compared to other shortened antennas because they have a good ground plane. But they're still quite a compromise from an electrical standpoint. Nothing beats a full length 1/4 wave whip. I always manage to scratch things with a mag mount as...

Couple of Radio Questions - Amateur

On morse code... Don't fiddle around with the tapes and "work your way up" method. It doesn't work, it's frustrating, and it actually wrecks your ability to use code. Go straight to the Koch method. You learn two letters at a time at whatever speed your goal is. No relearning, retraining...

    Prep for X-country

Not quite the same, but... One of my ex-bosses retired to NM. We have friends & family here in Texas, friends in AZ, and all kinds of family in Kali. If I need help I can get it. I also have some mobile internet capability, so I could conceiveably even post questions here if I broke down...

    Prep for X-country

MRE's? :roflmao JV, I'm going to have a 9000lb. self contained house behind me! Complete with kitchen, queen bed, and satelight TV. Heck, with full propane tanks, if I got stranded, I'd have cold beer for a month. Hmmm... Getting stranded for a month kind of sounds relaxing...

    Prep for X-country

All good stuff. Which reminds me, I need to pick up a gallon of oil. The rest is already onboard. We'll be pulling the TT. Go'n out to Kali to dock with the corperate mother ship for a few days. Then spend a few more visiting with friends and family. Have to take my son out to see...

    Excursions, why buy anything else?

We couldn't fit ours in the garage when we lived in California. Here in Texas... It fits with a couple inches to spare. :D I dunno what I'm going to do when our 2001 wears out. A 2005 is not in the cards. The only other tow rigs that come close to being as versitile are the crew cab...
