Im supprised that this new law doesnt have an opacity test for the exhaust.

All this mess is just one more reason why I am glad to be living in Florida. But that may not be a reason too much longer, as our governor seems to think a CARB style agency with the annual emission inspections would be a great thing for the Sunshine State.

Latest update on the 2010 California Smog Check for Diesels. The CA Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) inconjunction with CA Dept of Motor Vehicle (DMV) and CA Air Resources Board (CARB) concluded it's public workshops and have made the following recommedations.
Initially AB1448 would only begin smog testing of diesels, 1998 model year and newer, with a weight rating of 8,501lbs and less. Luckily my F250 was exempted under the weight rating (8,880lbs).
The 3 agencies, (BAR, DMV and CARB) have concluded in it's findings that it would be most cost effective to begin testing of all diesel vehicles 1998 and newer and up to 14,000lbs GVWR beginning January 1, 2010.
Their justification to include vehicles up to 14,000lbs GVWR was the cost savings to the state in implementing one change to the system and that emission benefits would be realized sooner.
You boys better run out and check the Fed sticker on the driver's door for your GVWR, because I think that the state just sucked up your F350's into this smog check mess.

I'm so glad I don't have to deal with this headache at least for the time being And I also have the shell of my cat hanging around expecting this dismal day to come around.
Granted I'm in FL however I expect to see this spread.
As far as OBD-III the socialists are looking to protect us however I would expect a more realistic implementation to be a hindering of performance or a lockout of the ignition system if not repaired in a given time or certain number of miles.
