First of all, NO, i didn't do another 4wd launch, and especially not in the low side.

Second, this ain't about my truck.

As some of you know, i haul Ford ReAquired Vehicles (fancy word ford has for a buyback), i went to pick-up one in moulton, al today.

it was a 2006 F250 crewcab 4X4. i was doin my inspection, and noticed it only had 3600 plus miles. i ask the salesman what happened to it.

he said, yours is a 4X4, right? i said, yes. he said, imagin doin 60mph and the truck goes into 4LO, all by itself.

i said, WOW. he said, yep.

so the question is, has anyone ever heard of this happening? at all, on any kind of ford 4X4?i hate to even imagine what that sounded like.

it was only about 3 hours ago, when i picked it up. so it was dark.

driveshafts still intact, the innerds of the TC, have to be junk i would think.

i'll take some pics in the morning before i go.

it is still in 4LO, and will not come out.

and red, they said he did come to a very quick stop.

did you drive it up on your trailer ? or pull it up ?
man the things that would have to fail.

no less than THREE switches are required to select LOW...
brake switch <depressed>, Netural selected *AND* then the 4LO (esof)
selected...

The big question - how did he convince Ford and the dealer that it "happened all by itself?" - must have those Jedi mind control skills.

yep, it drove up fine onto the trailer. but very slooooowwwwlllyyy.

surely he wasn't stupid enuff to do it on purpose, but, crazy things have happened i'm sure.

and robert, i took a good look at the transfer case, it was completely intact.

it didn't look to have any exterior cracks.

the insides must be mush.

and another thing i noticed, when i delivered it today in smyrna, ga, i notice the selecter switch was on the 2wd position, i didn't try to turn it, for fear i would tear something else up.

the service adviser, that i have gotten to know pretty good at wade ford, just smiled real big and said "oh boy" when i told him what was wrong with the truck.

I know this is probably a dumb question.... how fast are you supposed to be able to go in 4WD Low? I haven't done gears on my truck yet and I'm running 46" Mickey Thompson tires. I had it in 4WD Low earlier and it convinced me I need to get the axle gears done SOON! Wow the difference!
