If the truck ran out of fuel, the fuel pump may have lost it's prime... and you may have air in the system, in other areas.
You might try this ?
Open the water drain valve on the filter canister.. (put a 2'piece of hose on the drain line so it's viewable under the truck, but into a pan or glass jug) Turn the key ON but don't start the engine... with a Shop Vac (or the like) IN THE BLOWER MODE.. put some air pressure on/in the fuel tank fill port.. Watch for clear fuel with NO bubbles, at the drain valve hose
Close the water drain. Turn off the key. Remove the Shop vac.
Turn the key on.. listen for the fuel pump to cycle. Try to start the engine. IF it starts (?) it may stumble & shudder, while it clears any other air from the system... but it'll clear up after a few minutes.
May take a few Try To Starts too.
Worth a Shot ??
