I have a early 99 that quit while driving. I replaced the cps with a motorcraft unit from my glovebox. Tested the glowplug relay one post bad replaced with napa part. still no start and now after trying to start a few times no more wait to start light. is there another part to the glow plug circuit?

I checked the fuses, can't find a blown one. I wonder if there is a relay in the main power distribution box under the hood that controls the glow plugs. Also, One other thing, how does the fuel pump work on these trucks. I checked the fuel filter housing and it was only half full, when I turn on the key I don't hear the fuel pump running or priming. It is quite perplexing.

did you look at the fuses under the hood also?

how cold is it? i dont think yuo need to be worrying about glowplugs. the truck will start without them unless its sub-zero temps.

also, you can check to see if you are getting power to the pump. im not a SD expert though, so im not sure how the pump is wired for +/-

yeah. no wait to start light, no fuel pump activation, sound like the fuel bowl heater shorted and poped whatever fuse that is on or your pcm.:2c

Finally have time to look at the truck again. I checked all fuses. I already unplugged the fuel heater because that was bad. (a few months ago) I believe what happened is the truck ran out of fuel. In the process of trying to start it again I replaced the cps and also put a new glow plug controller on it.(It was cracked) After those were installed it still would only crank and crank with no start. Then something happened that stopped the wait to start light and also I can't hear the fuel pump run. I checked the fuel filter bowl and it is only half full and from what I have read on this forum if the system is working it should fill up the filter bowl. I have checked fuse #30 under the dash and even replaced it. I also checked all underhood fuses and switched some of the relays around to ensure there isn't a bad one. Somebody must have some ideas what to do next besides send it to Ford.

If the truck ran out of fuel, the fuel pump may have lost it's prime... and you may have air in the system, in other areas.

You might try this ?

Open the water drain valve on the filter canister.. (put a 2'piece of hose on the drain line so it's viewable under the truck, but into a pan or glass jug) Turn the key ON but don't start the engine... with a Shop Vac (or the like) IN THE BLOWER MODE.. put some air pressure on/in the fuel tank fill port.. Watch for clear fuel with NO bubbles, at the drain valve hose

Close the water drain. Turn off the key. Remove the Shop vac.

Turn the key on.. listen for the fuel pump to cycle. Try to start the engine. IF it starts (?) it may stumble & shudder, while it clears any other air from the system... but it'll clear up after a few minutes.

May take a few Try To Starts too.:dunno

Worth a Shot ??

How's yer batteries and connections ??
