backspacing question?

Im finally down to the wearbars on my POS tires. BTW, if you ever run across a cheapo tire called Milestar, stay away from them. The ones i have have a highway type tread pattern and i only got 15,000 miles out of them. they are load range D, but took them offroad maybe twice and rarely pulled with them.

What is the backspacing on the stock 2002 lariat wheel?

Im possibly looking at the Mickey Thompson classic II wheels. It says the backspacing for the 16x8 is 4 inches. The backspacing for the 16x10 is 4 7/16 inches. Im confused. Do i need more or less backspacing than my stock wheels in order to fit 315's?

wheel backspacing is going to change depending on width to keep the wheel centered over the hub unit bearing.

pulling the wheel out of the well is gonna cause you more problems than it solves..

the first picture is a non-artist's rendering of a neutral, or 0-offset wheel

the second is a high offset / low backset

the third a low offset / high backset

what you need to do is keep the center of load at or very near the wheel /axle bearing, otherwise you have bearing problems (ie, short service life)

thanks JL. thats what i needed to see to understand it better. so if i did want to get the MT wheels, and stay with 285 or 305's, 4 inches of backspacing would move the wheel in 4 inches?

keeping my stock wheel may be the best option then huh?

no. Four inches of backspacing would put the hub four inches in from the outer lip

okay. i understand now. had a brainfart. i need to just take my stock wheel off and measure the backspacing. i have 1 1/2 to 2 inches of space before i hit my leaf springs. think i can go 35's without rubbing?

+.25 offset means the wheel mounting surface is .25" towards the outside from the center..

learnin slowly but surely. i found some comparable wheels made by ultra. little bit cheaper.
