UPDATE!!!!

Now
A strong Arctic cold front was moving southeast through North Texas early this morning...with rain...freezing rain...and snow developing rapidly over western portions. Freezing temperatures over the western half of North Texas were pushing eastward...and at 800 am had pushed to the I-35 corridor. A large area of mixed precipitation has developed over a large part of North Texas. To the west of I-35...it was primarily freezing rain...while to the east...it remained rain. The area west of a Gainesville...Fort Worth...Gatesville line was already experiencing freezing rain and sleet. Travel in these areas will become more treacherous with time as conditions deteriorate this morning. As the freezing temperatures push east today...the area of freezing rain and sleet will expand and include Waco and the remainder of the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex later this morning. While travel in this area may not be hazardous now...conditions will quickly deteriorate later this morning. Furthermore...the bitter cold temperatures and associated gusty north winds between 15 and 25 mph will result in wind chill readings in the single digits and teens today. If venturing out today...wear several layers of clothing to protect your skin. Make sure you check with your local Highway department about Road conditions in your area.

Even better advice would be to go ahead and drive, just take your time and realize everything (braking, accelerating, turning) takes longer to do when you're driving on snow/ice. If you never go out in the snow, how will you ever build up experience for when you HAVE to go out in unpleasant (at least for you Texass wimps ;) ) weather.

apart from the gee-whiz factor, the temperature really doesn't matter once it's below zero.

The gee-whiz factor is purely psychological for sure............. but the rate at which flesh freezes and the rate at which mechanical and electronic equipment fails seems to increase the further below zero the mercury drops.
