............im starting to think it could be something with the IDM, not so much that you have a failed unit, but if some idm's are producing radio noise for some silly reason. would you be able to swap idm's with a friend?

Just got through pulling dozens of fuses trying to find the source of interference on my Icom 706MKIIG HF radio. Nothing worked until I pulled the IDM fuse and the noise went away.

Has anyone tried shielding the IDM in an attempt to block stray RF???

Possible to tape wrap it with aluminum foil? Sounds like a silly idea but what the heck:sweet

Perhaps a tight woven metal mesh screen?

carbon fiber works awesome. it may not be coming from the idm though, it could be coming from the wires coming out of it....at least now you are on the right track!

Well........I wonder if metal tape that you can get from Home Depot would work?

The 3M #1181 copper shielding tape can be had but it is expensive and inconvient to acquire.

somewhat hack-ish, but try wrapping the idm or harness in wire, and connect both ends to a good ground. how you make that pretty is on you, if it even works.
