Ford used Dana 50's in various forms in almost all F250 trucks from the early 80's until 2002 when they switched to Dana 60's for all Superduties 250,350,450. So if your truck is a 99 to 01 it will have a solid axle D50.

And supposedly a D50 is a D60 housing with D44 internals right? My front end is still stock with ~125k on the clock. Dana 44s are pretty tough, I had a 74 Scout II (not a light vehicle) with Dana 44s front and rear. I abused the heck out of it and they survived, the rear was a bit bent but it had been jumped a few times. Also, I got stuck once so I put it in 4L and locked the hubs. I was young dumb and mad so I through it in first and punched it. It slipped a bit and then WHAM! the front hub engaged and it drove out. Nothing broke.

I think the D50 is different than the D44 internals wise. I remember having a heck of a time finding anything aftermarket for it. Ford also had different numbers as well. But I think we need a repair guy here to tell us for sure.

But your right. I had an 86 F250HD with a Dana 50 front. It was pretty tough.
