Heated Seats: Replacement Element?

My drivers side seat no longer heats up. The little light on the side comes on which indicates I would assume that it's getting power - but no heat.

Passenger side works just fine.

Has anyone ever replaced the element/coils or whatever is in there? Tough job? Easy job? Any leads on the best pricing for them?

Thanks,

Ron

more than likely the heating grid is broken, you can unplug the connector at the seat and check continuity through the circuit, shouldn't show an open. It looks kinda like an electric blanket. most of the time some one sitting in the seat with a thick wallet or skoal can will do the damage, but i've never replaced a grid in the ford's. someone else here will point you in the right direction. good luck

Ron -

I installed some after market pads in my wifes subaru...
(the car didnt have heated seats from the factory).

the pads used to be fairly inexpensive...and honestly
the ones in Terri's car are better than the truck...
hers have a high and low setting (more like toast & BAKE).

when mine go, ill be putting the same ones in.

i got 'em from this guy...they were 100 bucks per seat...
but thats been more than 5yrs ago (and Terri's are still
working)

No wallet or anything - just a big fat ass on it for the last 4 years -

I use to use it year round - helped out with my back pain - but since last January and my operation, the truck sat for almost 6 months and I haven't tried to use it until the other day. Would have been nice this morning as it was 9 degrees out there.

Those look fine except for the fact that they come pre-wired to a multi-heat range switch - and I'd like to keep the factory switch in place. Have to go look at it again, but I don't know if it would look factory being changed.

On another note - I just suffered a hard drive melt down - and lost all emails back to 2003 - so send me a quick note so I can get your email again. The novaps address is going to be gone later this month.

Not under warranty anymore or I'm sure they would replace it. Plus I would not want to have to deal with ummm - unhooking stuff - :sly - at the moment.

merry christmas ! glad to "see" you 'round...hope things are
improving !

ill email you my address.

it it were mine...id leave the factory switch in place...cant see the
pos anyway (someone remind me to kick that designers ass for putting
it where they did).

anyway id install the NEW switch (which btw heats 100% of the time
if its ON...no on/off timer stuff...why is it ford is the ONLY one that thinks
folks dont want/need the heater on ALL the time, when they turn 'em on !?!)

anyway make you a deal...buy those cobra heat seats and ill give you
my factory heating pads...you give me the cobra ones ;)

we MIGHT be up there @ xmas...if so ill pull those pretty king ranch
seats out for you and install the new heating pads...you buy the beer
and cigars ;)

Getting better! As long as I don't get into a fight with any 3rd graders - as they might kick my ass - I'm doing okay - :D

Well you know I got you covered on the Cigars and beer :sweet

Getting ready to do a major remodeling job on the home here - add on the new kitchen and then a 20x20 foot addition to the back of the house - so I'm considering a walk in humidor - ;tu
