Need some help diagnosing my F250. I live in a remote part of alaska where there are no mechanics(or roads). It sometimes dies and then won't crank for an hour or two. It has lost quite a bit of horsepower, I can stand on the gas and it downshifts then accelerates slowly, and there is a noticeable miss. Between 45 and 65 it shakes like a wet dog. 2006 f250 6.0 20,000 miles. I did have to replace some injectors when my fuel froze last winter(40 below zero plays hell on diesels), only corrective maintenance performed.
Ford tells me that I can buy the parts and install them and that they will then consider reimbursing me the cost. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it possible to get a ford tech to come and fix it?
I apprecate any knowledge you can give me, direction, contacts, ideas.
Winter is coming soon and a ruck that leaves me stranded can kill me in this environment.

Are you getting a Check Engine Light? You should get a code reader or scanner to diagonise your trouble codes. Sounds like an EGR and/or EBP (Exhaust Back Pressure sensor)

you may NOT get a check engine light...its my understanding that
the CEL wil only be illuminated if its a CALIFORNIA truck.

unfortunately youre gonna need some tools to diagnose your problem...
you PROBABLY have codes set but its hard to say w/ out a code reader
of some kind.

i own and recommed autoenginuity, it not only reads codes but provides
also has TESTS that it can initiate to help you isolate the problems.

autoenginuity isnt your typical "code" reader...it also performs
diagnoses and sensor readings that most hand held devices cant get
to because they are manufacture specific...i heard stories where FORD
tech's prefered autoenginuity over the FORD factory/dealer only tool.

check out AUTOENGINUITY

ITP Diesel (a sponsor to this forum) sells and supports autoenginuty.

Sounds very similar to my symptoms when i need to change out the fuel filter... When was the last time the oil was changed? What oil are you running?
