I just got an '02 F-250 crew cab automatic. It has some kind of chip in it, my mechanic said he thinks it is a Diablo. My problem is I love the power but my EGT's can reach 1200 or higher very easy. Is there any way I can cool them down without losing the power? I don't know much about the truck as it's previous owner passed away suddenly and the truck kind of fell into my lap and I couldn't pass it up. It has 4" stainless exhaust which I took the muffler out of and straight piped it to try and cool it down a little but that didn't help much. I'm open to any advice. I've thought about changing the chip to something I can adjust.

What about the intake? What does it have?

Also, is the pyro probe before the turbo or after it?

If he is seeing 1200 degrees, it is before the turbo. He should be careful NOT to run it that hot for any time at all. Aluminum melts at 1250 degrees.

personally, I wouldn't chance it; especially if his luck runs anything like mine does..

I would be inclined to call Jody or Twildman and get their opinions...

My intake is still the stock one. I've been looking to upgrade that. The pyro probe is before the turbo. I did a little reading up on Tony Wildman last night, seems like he knows his stuff.I alsoread somewhere that my stock injectors are only good to about an extra 80hp? Should I get bigger injectors? I want to play with this thing a little bit but I still want reliability cause I drive it every day.

Stock intake doesnt have enough flow for a chip. Get that swapped out and you will
see a world of difference. Get the DYI NAPA 6637 filter, a 6-inch piece of 4-inch exhaust pipe and 2 long hose clamps. That will get you plenty of clean filtered air.

Can get more than 80 with stock injectors, someone will chime in with the
numbers I am sure.

DMD, Do you have any pics of this intake set-up? I thought I read on here that these filters actually filter better than a K&N? When you say long hose clamps, do you mean in width?

K&N is a very poor filter, just like any gauze/oil filter. Great for racing where filtering
and engine life isnt as much of any issue as a street vehicle. Gauze/oil filters
can be as bad as 96% efficient (per K&N site). Paper filters are around 99% and
above. SO, gauze/oil can let 4X the dirt through. Diesels cant take that abuse from
dirt going through the turbo and tight specs for the engine.

Clamps need to be able to go around 4-inch pipe. You can use the stock clamp on the stock
intake tube, just need one to secure the filter to the 4-inch pipe. You can see the clamps
in the photo. You can see the hugh surface area of the filter, that is how you can get
filtering as good as stock and much better airflow.

Photo I found on the net...
