Ford Logic...

If the single alternator is going to be an option why would they make it a 110a? Wouldn't it be just as easy to engineer for the 140 that comes with some duals? I don't think that would take away from their dual sales. I'm having some electrical issues and my testing shows: at idle with lights, heat, brake and cargo trailer hooked up my voltage dropped to 12.1 @ idle. With the RPM @ 1500 it goes up to 12.5. I don't know if that's an acceptable range but the dealer says the charging sythem is fine.

wow another newbie
welcome to the place to be
yep even under load i think 12.5 is marginal at best, but lets see what the electrical experts have to say
an unloaded electr should run 1200-1500 rpm in the range of 13.8 ish to 14.5 ish i f i remember correctly
its been awhile

the above link has the power curve for teh alt. in amps versus rpms but does not break it down to voltage

My truck's alternator supplied a whopping 11.6v after 30 seconds of running after starting it this afternoon. I hit charge protect on the AIC to read it w/o the emergency brake engaged. I checked it again at the first stop light on the way home. That would be 2 minutes and 3/4 mile. 14.7 then. Bryan

I bet we could talk Bryan into re-engineering the stock alternators to higher amperage output levels;)

That's kinda strange seeing all those ranges for trucks to '06... I just bought an '06, and got dual alternators, and with the plow package. In theory, I should have 2 130 amp units, but with the plow package, I would have ended up with a single 140 amp. Sales literature shows 130a, or 140a as the only options... jmight need to read a few part numbers to figure out what is what. I'll let you know when they deliver the truck.
