carrier/hanger bearing in the middle of the driveshaft is likely the cause of your noise it is a bearing that is bushed in rubber the rubber fails or gets weak an the shaft bangs on the outside of the case.

other causes could be the pinion nut backing off on the rear end (DO NOT just go and tighten it!! there is a torque spec that is important due to the crush sleeve in there)
or the u-joints going bad.

Farther from common options

leaf spring broken,
spring bushings shot,
loose u-bolt on axle.
flopping spare tire,
