I met a Ford engineer this past weekend and he told me Ford is only planning a 2 year run of the 6.4 and then will be changing to a 6.8. I hope he is wrong because I dont want a first or 2nd year production and that would mean I have to wait until around 2013 or 2014 to get a new one.

you gotta be kidding...it wouldnt shock me for a second...BUT...
w/ all the problems and "re-tooling" from the 6.0 to the 6.4
i find it difficult to believe they could even break even in 24months.

theyve got a black enough eye over the 6.0....they need a GOOD LONG
powerful run of the 6.4 to gain back the customers & their market
share.

w/ a 20% CUT in production the financial impact is all that much
higher.

well I hope he is wrong. It seems dumb to retool for a two year run but then noone has accused big businesses of being too smart. He acknowledged the short run but seemed very certain - ie, he said he was absolutely sure about it. We'll see I guess. Just more rumor for the pie.

He said something about International being at fault for some issues causing the delay on the 6.4. No details though.

"In addition to the increased technical complexity, Reitz said piezoelectric injectors are more expensive than solenoid systems. But he said the cost increase probably would not be a major issue for Ford."

of course it won't be an issue for Ford... we'll be the ones picking up the tab if we buy one....
