Hey Guy's, I've got a question. Why do you shut off the EGR when you have your trucks computer custom tuned. Does it hurt the engine over the long haul by doing this? Are their really big advantages to doing this?

EGR reintroduces unburned gases back into your engine. By eliminating, it will create more power. On your 6.0 their are no long term effects, IMO. However, the egr valve and egr systems primary function is for EMISSIONS, if you are not worried about polluting the air then don't worry, and it will be fine.

I have mine unplugged.....it's a 6.0...is this the best or do i have to do more or whats the deal. I heard that if you unplug it it is best, but then i heard you need to have teh valve actually tig welded closed because just unpluggin it does not mean it will stay closed....HELP!?!?!? please

Yes a simple connection unplugged would work. Just make sure when you unplugged it the key was off that allows the valve to be in the closed position that alllows no EGR introduction into the engine. The only way the valve moves is with voltage from pcm and could only come open when unplugged if the valve was to break and allow it to fall which is very unlikely and I have never seen that happen before.

To add to the EGR delete options, here's my choice.

Remove OEM EGR up-pipe, weld the short "T" that feeds the EGR cooler, remove the small scoop on the inside of the pipe (check your pipe), reinstall pipe, then using the SCT reprogram the PCM for no faults.

oh yeah and NONE of that will create any warranty issues for ya will it !

that being said it is a good point that even w/ the EGR valve
un-plugged "cooled" exhaust still flows THRU the egr cooler (it just
doesnt recirc. into the engine).

cause just unplugging it DOESNT do the same thing...

unplugging it just stops the actuation of the valve...exhaust still
flows thru the egr COOLER.

If you wanna STOP the flow of exhaust thru the cooler itself
you have to block it off.
