No, you just remove the outer 6 bolts at the axle hub and the axle comes out. You then can remove and replace the wheel breaings and seals. Easy job that will get you dirty!

Are these bolts behind the brake rotors? to the point where you cant see them if the rotor is still on? im having a hard time finding a hammer big enough to beat off my rotor

They are on the OUTSIDE of the hub where the end of the axle is! There are six 3/8 inch bolts that hold the axle to the hub assembly. Look at the end of the axle, on the outside of the wheel and center of the axle.
