Bush,
I got the Ford modifier that is in a 4 oz. bottle. I know that the Royal Purple is supposed to have that stuff in it. VALKYRIES said he put a little extra in his so I figured what will it hurt.

To add to this I really don't think it was locking up that well anyhow. i am not that worried about it. If it does start the banging I will add more.

if anything they dont lock up ENOUGH, or when needed, ive not
had any and found no need to add ADDITIONAL friction modifier.

the purpose of the friction modifier is to INCREASE the amount
of slip in the diff. clutch pack....add too much modifier and the
diff will NEVER lock up.

I see. it is too late now. I am not going to spend another $30-40 on some more gear oil when the diff really has never locked up much anyhow. I guess Ford puts too much modifier in them too.

My owners manual says to put 8oz. of modifier and I have read other places to only put in 4 oz. So who really knows how much is really needed.

I am not going to worry about it until it is time to change the fluids out again.

Thanks for your help.

I emptied three quarts in the front (Dana 60) and three quarts in the rear (Ford 10.5) with a 4 oz. bottle of modifier. If you don't use the modifier you will need four bottles for the rear. You will use three and a little of the fourth.

Great, I plan to pick it up today.

Bush, I think it is the 10.5 but that is beyond my mechanical knowledge. I do know the new diff cover fits. My wife bought me one for XMas and Im itching to put it on.

I have not seen the bottles yet and I know RP makes several products. Is the stuff I want just called Differential Fluid so that I can not possibly get the wrong stuff?

Peter -

youll want the GEAR LUBE called MAX-GEAR (pictured
bottle below)

No need to add any additional stuff when you pour
in the the RP lube.

youll need just over 3 bottles for the rear...I bought
it at O'Rielly Auto parts (9.99 per quart/bottle).

Pep Boys had it for the same price (I had to get
O'Rielly's to call & match the pep boys price)

check your owners manual for the proper weight called for.

If you put in the Royal Purple Gear Oil, Do Not add the ford stuff.
If you do your pos-a-track rear end will not pull together as it was designed to do.
Ask me how I know????
