Has anybody here mated up a GV to a 4R100 yet or can it be done? I know the IDI guys are crazy about the GV's but.... for the most part they are dealing with 3 spd trannys or bolt actions.

at about 3k plus install the GV boxes STILL make it a tough
ROI.

even gear vendors doesnt show it an a compatible option
for the 5r110 & 4x4

you could do a 3.55 (and still tow) for 1000 bucks or so...
but again, reportedly, youd only gain 2 or 3 mpg (on the highway).

a 3.08 would net you an estimated aditional (interstate) 5-6mpg
but your towing would suffer such that id expect you wouldnt WANT
to tow...on the interstate SURE youd be happy (long hauling)....but
its a bit of a trade off @ best.

the other thing you have to control is your slippage... and your biggest source is the torque convertor itself... I'd call a trans shop that specializes in deisel towing trannys like BTS because even after 30 years in the business, I still farm my trans work out..

OPPS... i see this is in the 7.3 forum...sorry

the GV is available for the 4r100...but the pricing issues
are the same ($2895-$2995) plus install ($650-750).

One of the weak points of the 4r100 is the converter...
and BTS has made a good business in repairing and
"beef-ing up" the 4r100.

3700 bucks buys ALOT of fuel (1000+ gallons at 3.50 per gallon)....
nearly 40 tanks for fuel (in my truck)...

Ken I know this is off the original topic but have you done any improvements such as Intake,Exhaust system,Fuel Pressure bumping and any of the low cost/freebies available for our 7.3L's that do aid MPG?

I also endorse Brians Truck Shop as our 02 Excursion will be heading there for a new trans.

A bit off topic, but GV does make one for the 5R110 & 4x4 a guy I know locally has one on his 04, I think he might be signed up on this forum as hpprose but doesn't post very often.
