Exhaust Back Pressure Valve? EBPV, does the sound go away once the engine is warmed up? What is your location, and temprature?

Did you clear the code and it come back?

If so you can unplug the EBPV at the base of the front of the turbo. If it quits making the sound, you'll have to find what's causing the malfunction if it's still closing when engine oil temp is over 150 degrees.

This Turbo Pic has the plug labeled for reference.:sweet

You should hear it in normal operation, but if you are getting a code for the ebpv then you probably have a problem. What is the code you are getting?

The valve won't be bad. It can become stuck I think when it's heavily sooted up.

The EBP sensor might be bad, a scanner would tell you that if you could read what the sensor is reading.

The valve is there to put a load on the engine when the engine is cold and outside temps are low. It helps with warm up and will close when you lift or just have light the throttle and open when push the throttle. You can watch the boost gauge come down when the valve closes. Some gut it, some wire it to a switch and make an exhaust brake out of it.
