I hear you on "dreading" the dis-assembly. That is why I tell people to get the DieselSite upgraded HPOP. It is your best bet at reliability.

Many OEM (re-manufactured) HPOPs have failed "out of the box". Bostech (and Bosch) has a TERRIBLE record as does OReilly's HPOPs. Lifetime warranty is laughable when you have so much labor involved.

I wonder if that insulation you found was from a rodent .... ??

Yes, a broken (or unplugged) FICM connector can cause a no-start and can cause sudden engine dying.

Okay. Everything is put back together again. Dark and raining heavy now. I have a charger on the batteries now. I will make sure that the fuel is bled out since I did do thw Blue Spring kit.

I suppose if it doesn't star it may well be the HPOP. If it doesn't start I will I suppose get it towed and dropped at the local diesel shop for diagnosis.

If they can tell me definitely what the issue is then I will go ahead and to that at the house.

I just want to to start so it can be immediately sold.

Ugh been raining all day. That atmospheric river hit Reno last night. 4" of rain so far. Guess I am not doing anything today or for the next 3 days.

When you were mentioning the standpipe and seals. Were you talking about the pipe and seals that are under the cover with the HPOP? I was watching some instructional videos and saw them replacing the seals and reinstalling the same pump.

Do you have a link to the seal kit for inside where the HPOP is if the pump is in fact still in good shape? Also is there a release tool for that pipe? Like the release tools for the fuel lines?

Your early 04 does not have dummy plugs (I just mentioned them because the people with 04.5 and up engines do have them and can have issues with them). Sorry for the confusion.

The standpipes that I was talking about are what connect the oil rail with the branch tubes. The branch tubes are what connect to the HPOP after the "J-tube". The standpipes on the 03 and early 04 are different from the late 04 and up design, but sometimes they do fail.

Standpipe kit You need two): 3C3Z-6N853-BA

2003 engines (2003 and early 2004 trucks) HPOP discharge tube: 3C3Z-9T288-AA
THIS IS AN UPDATED PART AND HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Updated (2003 and 2004 trucks) HPOP pump cover with IPR: 3C3Z-9G805-AA

The HPOP seal kit is: 3C3Z-9G804-AA


I am pretty sure the tool below is what you need but not 100% .................
Tool to disconnect the "quick connect" fittings: 303-755

Just made sure air was out of the fuel lines, replaced the cap and still no start. [emoji24]I guess I am going to have to tear down when weather permits and deal with the HPOP.

Other than having it towed for diagnosis I do not know what else to do about it.

I have a random question that I noticed and was not sure about.

If I remove the fuel cap from the small bowl, turn the key in and fill the bowl. i notice that the fuel level drops down like it is draining off someplace. Is this normal or is it possible that there is a fuel line issue?

Just a thought on something I am not sure about.

My fuel bowl drains also. It really isn't supposed to, but it isn't a real big deal. I don't think they would drain down with the cap on, and that is the important thing.

As far as the no-start goes - be sure to keep your batteries charged when cranking a lot, but sometimes it takes 6 or 8 extended cranks after air gets into the high pressure oil system.

Proper cranking is 20-30 seconds of cranking with 30 seconds minimum wait until the next crank. I usually wait a minute or so between cranks.

Sorry have been away. My pops passed away last weekend and have been dealing with it and all that comes with it being the oldest of the siblings and the closest geographically.

Never got it running and sold it back to the dealer that sold it to me 5 years ago for a decent price.

Never confirmed the HPOP. Sorry all but HPOP is what was suspected though.
