you can use Mercon trans fluid, whether it be regular or synthetic...it should hold 2 liters or just a little more then 2 quarts....hope this helps

I'd probably throw synthetic tranny fluid at it myself... it would tend to be a little less resistance at lower temperatures.

Will it be OK to use the Mercon SP in the transfer case? The parts store accedently ordered two cases and I said i would go ahead and take both.

i would NOT use mercon SP...

MERCON SP is not like the old MERCON or MERCON V its not
interchangeable. SP is far from universal in its coverage or use.

the reality is that most xfer boxes see light & only ocassional
use....when you drain it you might wonder WHY youre even
draining it (its typically very clear & clean).

just the same its still worth changing.

as others have said...go w/ a synthetic, i prefer royal
purple for the diffs and xfer case (its easily obtain at
your local auto parts stores).

ATF... that's the correct weight, and what's called for. 75w is way too thick.

Bush - Aside from wasting expensive SP, what would it hurt? I think you could pretty much run olive oil in a transfer case and it would be fine 95% of the time... I know SP has some unique properties, but as a regular lube for straight running bearings, I can't see how it would hurt it. Might be way overkill though.
