Hey,

I noticed the other day in my 04 F250 that the vents wont change from the windshielf position. Is this a common problem? Does anyone have the fix for it?

Cheers
Jeff

I had this happen to mine. You have lost vacuum pressure somewhere.

On mine, the vacuum hoses behind the dash had deteriorated and had to be replaced. Another good spot to check is if you have 4x4 shift on the fly. The hoses that connect to the front hubs sometimes crack and create a leak.

Ok, would this stop some of the 4 X 4 from engaging? I do not know some times if 4 x 4 engages so this may be the issue. I will get my mechanic to check it out.

Thanks

it would ! generally speaking diesels dont create vacuum like a
gasoline motor, so they have a vac. pump.

on the superduty the electrical vac. pump is mounted on the passenger
fender (under the hood)...the vac. lines routing to the pump control
the venting of the ac/heat/defrost *AND* the same pump controls
the semi-auto 4x4 front locking hubs.

confirm that your pump is operating and that all your vac. lines
are attached.

when the vac pump fails or it looses its ability to create/pull a vac.
then the ac/heat defaults to a safe mode of DEFROST (need to
keep the windshield clean so you can see to drive).

your problem could be as simple as a vac. line loose or as as complicated
as a line/fitting leak (the pumps do fail...but not often)

Hey,

Thanks, took it in this morning and isolated it to either the line going to the driverside 4 x 4 or the sensor mounted near the pump. Can some one tell me what the sensor is near the pump?

Thanks

If you talking about the "sensor" close to the pump (with the vaccum line from the pump or canister running into it and the lines running out to the hubs) all it is, is a 1 way valve that opens and closes electronicly when you select 4wd which sends vaccum to engage the front hubs.

I have had my fair share of problems with my 4wd system too. Twice mine turned out to be bad hub seals.

Yes it is a bad hub seal on the front passanger side. Does anyone know if this is covered under the powertrain warrentee 100m/5 year or no?

theres no power train warranty on the 04's
its an engine only warranty.

this COULD be an expensive job (if you pay a dealer to do it)...
while youre there you should replace the OE balljoints (if they havent
already been done) w/ greasable lifetime units.

the dealer wont sell or offer you lifetime anything...and they dont
typically have greaseable replacements.

rumors are that this DIY job, performed at a dealer will run you about
400+ per side.

its an easy enough DIY job to do the ball joints and hub seals...and it
wont cost you more than 100 bucks in parts per side....tools can be
borrowed from any autoparts supplier.
