I could have sworn I responded to this thread years ago, either I'm blind or going senile.

I was allowed to drive an 87 grand am sedan when in high school it was supposed to be the '85 volvo 740 but my brother managed to total that car before I ever got my learner's permit. darn thing would eat CV axles & alternators, thankfully the alternator was an easy job and I've done at least 4 in the parking lot of the parts stores.

My first vehicle I owned was a '90 Ranger supercab 2wd, 5 speed, 2.9L

Yes, I think I replied to this awhile back too. My first car was a new 1972 Ford Pinto 2 door (no hatchback) with the 1600cc engine. No air/power, etc., only an AM radio. Drove it for about 2 years, put 40,000 on it. Wish I could find one just like it again. I was still living at home when I had it, and the trunk opening was so small that when I needed to bring home feed for our chickens, a 100 pound sack wouldn't fit into it, so I had to get two 50 pound bags. Even with no power steering, it drove really well.
