16.5's don't have a safety bead. 15's won't fit your rotors, and the load ratings aren't too great.

16's and 17s are where you need to be. Any bigger and the tires cost big bucks.

You not only have to watch size. But some brands after you pass about a 285/75/16 will drop to a C rating. You really need a D or E with the weight of the diesel.

All this information has been very essential in locating and deciding on the right tire and wheel combo to go with.

I've narrowed it down again. Here is what I've come up with taking Diesel Rotor size, no lift, load rating, price in tire, and tire compatibility into consideration.

Pro Comp Mud Terrain 33x12.50R17 on MT's Classic II 17x9 8lug 170mm 5" backspace

My memory escapes me now. If the '04 has leaf springs, the 5" backspacing is too much. No more that 4.5" I believe. Smarter people with more sleep will correct me!

From my research positive backspacing moves the wheel/tire away from the leaf springs/out and negative would move the wheel in toward the leafs springs.

Anyone else have insight regarding backspacing?
