Being a CDL driver this is one thing I know about. ANYTHING with a GVW 26,000 lbs OR with air brakes of any kind the driver MUST have a cdl b with air brake endorsment and cannot pull a trailer more then 10,000 lbs without a class A. Its not the state police you have to worry about its the DOT if thay are onsite expect trouble.

You may know about it, but you are wrong :sorry . If you are operating the vehicle commercially, you need a commercial drivers license. Since it is not a commercial use, you do not need a commercial drivers license. Since I have driven and been a distribution supervisor for the past 25 years off and on, I also have experience in the field.
Now just because that is the way the law is written does not mean that it is the way it is enforced. Think about it, how many 89 year old men could pass the CDL physical? Yet, in my neck of the woods, I see them all the time behind the wheel of a ginormous Motor home. :rant

just looked at his ad...48k for an 8yr old <truck> is kinda steep in my book.

And how old were the trucks you posted in your link (the volvos) :D

I dont think i am getting the truck anyway, i did some math and if i got the truck i wouldnt be able to afford any kind of vacation and i already get a free trip to New Zealand/Oz, i would really kick myself in the butt if i passed up that oportunity.

i understand your point...but the trucks i posted in my links have a
well known/proven HISTORY...of performing WELL and requiring little maint.

theres a big difference in light duty and class 8 (million mile motor) trucks.

theres a HELL of a lot more HD/Class 7 & 8 trucks on the road than
f650's.

good point, especialy if you said they are priced <$40K! I will have to look into those when i actually buy my RV.

those that are using 'em for toter home/toy hauling have reported a
consistant 10-11mpg (loaded)...and w/ 200-300 gallons of fuel
on board the range is gonna be more than any bladder can hold ;)

the class 7's & 8's can be serviced at just about ANY truck stop...im
not so sure than can be said about the 650 (even when it doesnt
use the FORD 6.0L)...parts are CERTAINLY gonna be more limited
as composed to just about any class 7 / 8 trucks.

fwiw ive requested pricing information of his next conversions as well
as a "ball park" of what the last unit sold for <delivered>...ill report
back on any pricing info i get.

10-11 is pretty damn good! I also seen that a few came with the Eaton Fuller 10 speed :sweet i think you are begining to talk some sence into me :)

How about insurance? I dont think the regular ol' insurance places insure vehicles like this. I need to check with USAA just for ****'s and giggles.

again thats the REPORTED mileage...dont have any 1st hand
knowledge or verification of such.

I know plenty have claimed higher mpg <here> on their 6.0L 2/350s
than many of us ever see....so as they say ymmv.

couldnt tell you 'bout the insurance either...i suspect its no worse
than any private motor coach...

i cant imagine pulling in to "fill up" and dropping 1000 dollars...
not that it feels better doing that 10 TIMES w/ my f350.

i drove a 650 with the 5.9 cum mins in it.
i can tell you its not a good combo if your going to pull, its way down on tq.
and empty if it aint got air seats and air suspension your going to get beat to death .
an 09 450 would pull any toyhauler around and still provide decent daily driver duties

fwiw i speced out a 650 to replace our 350 2 yrs ago
biggest cat and a 6 spd plus AIR RIDE on the rears and the shortest cab to axle lenght , leather
air ride seats and lariat stuff. crew cab, no tow body for 55k, add a decent tow bed and it hit nearer 75k.
and yep insurance is higher and also fuel consumption...

at least you got lots of time to research

I wouldn't want a F-650 unless it had the 8.3 Cum with 300 + HP or the cat 7.2 325 HP and 850 FT TQ. You can buy them with the low profile bed for pulling a fifth wheel.

Thanks for the input! I thought the same thing about the Cummins but the guy had quite a few aftermarket parts that sounds like it would have made up for any lost power. That was the only reason i was really looking at it, otherwise I would prefer the C7 Cat

Well i cant find one for under $80K (like the one i pictured below is an 07 with 18K miles and is still $85K) and $50 is pretty much my cutoff point.
