Really ?!?
Cool if that is the case Fire1, cuz I heard 300 volts - didn't hear the Amps (which is really what gets ya!) but still...
unless the battery has an internal shut off and metal part can't contact the terminals (or any live wires) the power is till there...

and how does it NOT have any acid... is it the type of battery it is ?

curious minds wanna know before we have to help someone that gets run over by one of us after they give us the finger and cut us off :)

It depends on the vehicle but it is between 200-400 Volts. The battery and entire system is monitored. If we cut an energized cable it is said it will shut down at the battery pack before anything can happen to us.
The batteries are I believe called absorbed acid or something. You can put them in a very powerful press and not get enough acid to concern you. They carry no Hazmat or disposal problems. This is all per recent (last week) training. It is a very interesting system.

I drove a Lexus hybrid SUV a couple of weeks ago.

Kind of interesting. Four electric wheel drive motors and a six cylinder engine .

Down side is for all the extra money your going to spend on it your only going to get 25mph city, 30mph highway.

You can do better than that with a diesel VW.

I tried to find a diesel VeeDub of any vintage just as a beater car. Just try...I checked the usual spots like Auto Trader and there are NONE on a national search! The secret is out! However, there are a few Mercedes-Benz sedans with diesels looking for new owners...

My friend just bought an 03 Jetta TDI from Conn. off of ebay for $20k. He's had 4 calls since from the seller asking him if wants to back out of the deal (while waiting for the title). We suspect someone has offered him even more to sell to them. Watch over the next year - diesels will become in such demand that even the left coast will have to bow to pressure to get off of the manufacturer's backs. I'm planning on getting an 03 with a 7.3 in a month or so. Both my friend and I will be running on WVO (free!!!) and I'll be 'explaining' to the sniveling little leftie how I was polluting less than his wussie hybrid was before I crushed it with my behemouth beast.

All manufacturers are required to keep parts available for 10 years afterwards.
