How long do you idle in cold weather??

Looks like Blackstone is confused on what motor you have! Narrative says 7.3, info up top says 6.0!!:dunno At least the numbers look good! Based on your input I think I'm fine letting her idle for awhile instead of starting her up and shutting down all the time on short trips. Thanks.:sweet

How long do you idle in cold weather??

Sometimes I've got to run several errands in which I've got the choice of shutting the truck down and restarting again after a few minutes (and repeating again and again) or just let it idle. I'm concerned about battery life and giving the alternator enough time to recharge the batteries. So...

I too would like to know what's so bad about Amsoil??? Am I missing something? More expensive?

    Replacement Air Filter

I'm running K&N FIPK for 60k, silicone is at 4 ppm when universal average is 12 ppm (Blackstone). HOWEVER, I installed the K&N at 15k, long before viewing any of these forums. Knowing what I know now, and not knowing how the K&N would perform, I may be hesitant to buy a $300 filter. Glad I...

    Air Filter

I've had my K&N FIPK on for about 60,000 miles and I clean it every 10-15k. My silicone readings from Blackstone are consistently at 4 ppm. I don't know what the Donaldson filter levels are, but Blackstone seems to think 4 is pretty good. Universal averages are 12 for a 6.0. Just my 2 cents.

Replacing exhaust--cat back or downpipe too?

Just got back from a 450 mile test drive and she's running like buttah. The only change in sound is more, well, a LOT more turbo whine in the cab, but with three kids I hardly noticed the extra whining. Much louder outside, though, which is great. Thanks for everybody's help. Bruce

Replacing exhaust--cat back or downpipe too?

The exhaust is in. I'd like to have a few words with the genius that wrapped my downpipe FIVE TIMES with the heat wrapping!! -mad Took me over 2 hours just to get the down pipe down--had to cut it twice, but the wrapping and it's bands kept getting hung up on every little thing in its way...

Installing cab lights on X...need quick help!

No, no bomb disposal unit for me, but I did guess right on the brown wire from the headlight switch---that's what they do in the movies, right? -popcorn The cab lights are installed and they look great. Just had to buy $15 worth of a knock out tool at Home Depot and I was set. Installation...

Installing cab lights on X...need quick help!

Many thanks, Bryan. I kind of figured that but wanted to ask to make sure. Color blind guys don't do well with wiring, if you know what I mean. I had my 7 year old tell me the "other" wire was brown....:roflmao

Installing cab lights on X...need quick help!

Yeah, the X is different from the F250/350 in that we do not have the harness under the kick panel; we've got to run the wires "backwards" so we can run them down the drivers side pillar. I just don't know what wires to tap into. I've got the harness F81Z 17C710 BA, it's the one Bill said he...

Installing cab lights on X...need quick help!

Hey all, I got the five cab lights, ten nuts, and the wiring harness in the mail today, and I've got Motomans install directions printed out and ready to go. BUT, I don't know which wires on the harness to splice into which wires by the headlight switch.:dunno Help would be appreciated...

6.0 Runability Issues: SCMT at fault?

This may be a longshot, but has there been any action on SC's part of refunding money for the tuner if the owner has had engine trouble like I've had? Doesn't hurt to ask...

Replacing exhaust--cat back or downpipe too?

Okay, exhaust is here and going in tomorrow morning. I notice that the stock downpipe is wrapped in a metallic blanket of sorts...is this something that I'll want the MBRP system wrapped in? And if so, what is it and where can I get it?

6.0 Runability Issues: SCMT at fault?

That makes more sense, sure wish I knew that before buying the SCMT, I would've gone for the SCT. I'll see how the 4" exhaust does before doing anything on the tuner. Thanks for the help :thanks

6.0 Runability Issues: SCMT at fault?

UPS delivered the 4" MBRP turbo back exhaust today, so that base is covered after this weekend's install. I'm not sure that I'm tracking the difference between the SCMT and the SCT...they're both superchips tuners, correct? Is the SCT going to provide that big a difference in the tuning from...

    New Diesel Owner

Welcome to SDD, it's the best site around. Congrats on your new truck, you're going to love it. If you're like me, one of the first things you'll do is figure out a way to maintain it properly, but cheaply. You're looking at $500 every 15k for a dealership service....I got smart on my X and...

    coolant filter for the 6.0

Robert, Is the location shown in your install the only place to mount the bypass filter? I'm running an oil-bypass filter mounted off a bracket on the alternator; the oil bypass filter takes up the space where this coolant filter would go.

Replacing exhaust--cat back or downpipe too?

I'm up in Longmeadow, Massachusetts (military) and none of the shops around here are willing to do it--only if I buy from them.

Replacing exhaust--cat back or downpipe too?

Thanks for everybody's input. Mark at DPPI hooked me up with a price that beat everybody elses by $100. I got the aluminized turbo back system with a tip. Any tricks to make the install easier (besides the part about working on a COLD exhaust...)??

Replacing exhaust--cat back or downpipe too?

I'm thinking of replacing my exhaust. Do Excursions (6.0) have a 3" downpipe? Is it worth replacing it or better to just go the cat-back route? I'm after better performance, not a louder exhaust. Any brands good at NOT increasing the sound inside the truck?

6.0 Runability Issues: SCMT at fault?

My truck (read sig) just clicked 75K on the odometer. I've been having runability issues since 56k; the basis of problems is an exceptionally loud "turbo fart" when letting off the accelerator or during uphill acceleration, especially when pulling 11k trailer. By "exceptionally loud" I mean the...

    Driveline vibrations

I've had the radius rods installed now for a few weeks and have evaluated them towing for about 1000 miles. The axle wrap problem has been fixed; it is especially evident while towing over expansion joints on interstate bridges. Prior to the rods, the back end of the X would have a tendency to...

    Driveline vibrations

I got the radius rods installed -- WOW -- huge improvement. Only downside is that it accentuated the driveline vibration. I'm getting the driveshaft balanced in the next couple days. Hopefully that'll clear up the vibration.

    NEW TURBO BAD

My advisor even told me that Ford is having such a problem with the 03 6.0's that they can't keep them on the shelf, hence the 4 day wait time. He had personally had 3 customers this week with bad EBP sensors in 6.0's, so apparently it's a pretty broad problem. On edit: I ran the codes with...
