The End of My Diesel Era

After 16 years of blissful 7.3 towing, I have sold Big Blue and moved down to an F150 EcoBeast. Just don't need the 'big rig' towing and parking. Sold for $2K less than paid 16 years ago (inflation is a beatch). Still ran like a top. I miss the smell, miss the sound; don't miss the diesel...

    AC Dies when 4WD Activated?

Thank you Eddie. Pretty interesting. I will absolutely have some looks at those. Steve

    AC Dies when 4WD Activated?

Here in NW Arkansas, I don't need 4WD often. Last week, I was dragging a trailer up an incline, rear started to spin, so I engaged 4WD to assist. Cold air stopped coming out of the vents, 95 degrees outside. (But the blower could still be heard.) When I got home, I checked every fuse inside...

Battery Question: what’s this fused accessory wire?

Also, it appears the battery is outgassing significantly. Pop the caps & check acid level. Top up with distilled water. Just suggesting these bits.

Battery Question: what’s this fused accessory wire?

Clean that battery well with baking soda & warm water. Coat the tightened battery made-up posts with Vaseline. Strip a #14 or #12 Romex and lay the bare wire across your battery. Don't terminate it. The corrosion will attack the copper and not the terminals. Replace the wire when badly corroded.

    NW Arkansas Powerstroke Service

I just moved up to Bentonville, Arkansas. Can anyone recommend a good shop for service on my 7.3? Oil changes, steering box service, the works. Are the stealerships OK here - I hate to make an expensive mistake. Thank you.

    Dome Light Short

That may be the case. Planning to replace the entire OEM cargo/3rd brake light fixture and put LED bulbs in dome lights. Just have to choose right ones.

    Dome Light Short

This is almost embarrassing. All I tried to do was pull my dome light bulbs to get the number and order some LED replacements. Now I have a dead short in that circuit, have blown fuse #14 twice. That is the circuit with the center and rear dome lights and the cargo light on it. [I think the...

    Blue book

That is interesting to know. I have a 2001 F350 long bed and we love it. Much smoother riding than short bed and easier towing the 5th wheel (standard hitch, no sliding). That said, forget Starbucks and other high brow parking lots with this 22 ft long, 7 ft tall beast (unless you just love...

Saying good bye to my 7.3 for 6.7

I have heard great things about the 6.7. But I have also heard that you have to drive for a minimum of 1 hour per week at speed to ensure the emission system functions properly, else the truck will shut down. Also understand that you must recharge the urea (??) for this system regularly. Not my...

    comment Euthanized the kitty today

I just saw your post. Wow! 11 year old truck with 41K on it??! Thats 3700 miles a year, hardly enough for the little old lady to negotiate the freeways of Pasadena on Sundays. Did you get some mpg figures - with and w/o trailer? Just curious.

    7.3 Sluggish

I tow a 37 ft 5th wheel with our '01 7.3. Truck is terrific, reliable, has decent MPG, with 128K miles. But it is not a barnburner with a load. Driving across N. Texas towing the 5th wheel on those long mild 287 hills, it works pretty hard. I can't make over 40 mph on Raton Pass from New...

Lost Power - "Service Engine Soon" Light

I should have replied before when I got this fixed. The left valve cover has a gasket integral with a wiring harness for the injectors. The harness failed. Not a cheap fix, BTW.

Lost Power - "Service Engine Soon" Light

Folks - Help, My '01 7.3 has been outstanding, just 128K on the clock. But just yesterday I made a mower gas run, only 3 miles or so. Returning home, the Service Engine light popped on and I lost a lot of power - had to put my foot into it just to stay running and get home. I know I need to...

Question 6.0 Trans Cooler on 7.3 Truck

Thanks, folks, for the 6.0 filter upgrade information. clintusaf, to what lubricity test do you refer? Friend of mine is a long time mechanic and he swears by MMO (also a cool picture). [ Hey, see your Bossier City locale. I am from the Lafayette area, graduated LSU years ago. Go Tigers! ]

Question 6.0 Trans Cooler on 7.3 Truck

As for the filter, I was not clear. Thought I read somewhere that some put an external filter to the cooler - additional to the one in the transmission. [Wow, 40 deg reduction would be great! Mine reached 210-220 towing in N. Texas last fall. And that wasn't even summer.]

Question 6.0 Trans Cooler on 7.3 Truck

OK, you've convinced me on upgrading my 7.3 tranny cooler. Any recommendations on a shop put a 6.0 cooler in there for me in NW Houston? Ideas on what that might run? Do they have filters from factory? Or is that an aftermarket item? Thanks.

    looking for a 7.3L

Found my 2001 7.3 two years ago on Auto Trader. You can set up a profile that will automatically send you an email when a truck of your specific year range and other description turns up in the geographic area you specify. Think I set mine to 2000-2003, diesel, F350 and 250 miles from Houston...

    SuperDuty Rear Seat - Folddown??

My 01 SuperCrew has a great fold down rear seat, 60/40 split. Anyone know of an aftermarket fold down rear seat for the F350 SuperDuty Crew Cab, 2001 model? It'd be nice for long trips with an ice chest, etc. Thanks.

    Towing - Performance

Gauges are on the way this week with an A-pillar mount. Now considering a larger turbo housing and maybe a swisher turbo or WW. Pretty much decided against a whole new turbo. Too much green when I'm not going for injectors, etc. I just want the best towing performance - safely with no...

    Question Aftermarket Turbo

I am looking at a Garrett GTP38R replacement turbo. Specs are here: Diesel Innovations - Products Should give a third more air flow and run smoother than my stock one. Getting gauges as well in a pod arrangement on the A-pillar as well. It's a bit pricey but I don't spend much on myself...

    Towing - Performance

No gauges yet - that's probably the next thing to do. Plan to visit DI Performance and see what other ideas they might have. Intercooler any use for improving mileage or towing? I am happy with the truck even on the economy tune. Wish I'd bought one with the first PS's. Great site!

    Towing - Performance

Not sure about the clutch fan. I never heard this particular noise until I got the cold air intake - that's why I think it is air sound. And the sound was never so loud as when towing my 5th wheel. Makes sense to me as more fuel requires more air. Just not familiar with how the truck SHOULD...

    Towing - Performance

We finally bought a 5th wheel and I was able to tow with all the mods to the F350 (see signature) the past weekend. I set the Diablosport tuner to Tow tune. The 37 ft. Cedar Creek is no more than 12,000 lb and towed well insofar as it held whatever speed set - 60, 65, 70 - with no problem...

    Question Awesome Transformations

Anyone deal with these folks on 1960 between Perry and Mills Roads? They install accessories which is a plus for me who has no time - light bars, r-boards, etc. Good, not so good, stay away?? Thanks.
