Brian, I would pull the chip. If the stealership trys to pull codes it may give them some problems.

Scott

They pulled the codes yesterday, and all that was there was turbo/wastegate codes related to the hot chip.

Yeah, thats what I was meaning, REMOVE the chip, not "set it to stock".
Hey, I was intending to remove the bolt holding the harness to the PCM, and discovered it was rather loose...so I tightened it up and will give it a go tomorrow. I'll take the tools to work to remove the chip, and that will be a good test, if she won't start up. Crossing my fingers...

Just be sure the truck is turned OFF and the key out of the ignition. I have read of ppl FRYING thier computers because of loose chips/harness connections and playing with the connections while the truck was running.

Let us now!

Batteries were disconnected...taking no chances there.
Made it to work fine (as has been the norm)...check back @ 3PM PDT, if there's no post, then it means I'm on my way home -popcorn :)

how's this for a theory: the struck started fine when it was cold because the harness was tighter into the PCM, and after the truck was driven, the slightly loose harness slightly separated from the PCM, allowing the sporadic and intermittent starting problems, which then 'self corrected' as the truck cooled off again :dunno ?

Actually not that far fetched.

RCA televisions are NOTORIOUS for a similar trick. As the TV warms up, and the circuit board expands, it creates stress fractures in the solder joints. The TV will work fine COLD, but as it warms up, and the materials expand, it starts to go on the fritz. I used to fix maybe 2 or 3 of those TV's a DAY just out of high school. It was ALL PROFIT too, as it was no troublshooting involved. Already knew the circuits to hit with a soldering iron. 30 mins work, and made 80-150 bucks depending on size of TV.

At work update  :

10AM: wouldn't start
12:30PM: started, drove around to operating temperature
2PM: :dunno

Doesn't the fact that I've never shut down after starting suggest the ignition system other than the PCM :dunno ? I sure hope some of you are deriving some pleasure out of this fiasco!

you removed the chip at work today like you promised right?
I was gonna remove it if she didn't start up...which she did. I'm gonna take it out tonight when I get home. Of course, that's if I get home :D .

Pardon if I've already posted this  (been busier than a one legged man at a butt kick'in contest! :p ) Check your under hood relays. (I believe 2002 or so, Ford started putting all the fues' in one pannel.) I wasted $$$ on my CPS when I needed a relay. If memory serves me right you need to check the fuel pump relay and the computer relay. Keep us up dated.

OK, here's an update:

took out the chip
took out the 10K mod

truck started fine all weekend. It was cloudy and cool.

Today the truck is sitting in the sun. Wouldn't start -mad ...until I opened the windows and let the breeze cool off the interior! I gotta loose wire or harness somewhere. And I'm still leaning toward the ignition switch, because otherwise wouldn't I also have problems with shutting down after startup?

:dunno

this is getting old...and a stock truck s*cks.
