im suggesting that if it IS due even in PART to the oil cooler being
plugged that you need to run a coolant filter <asap> ive been running
mine since about 10k miles and knock on wood ive seen no problems.

my issue w/ "tuners" is the increased pressures...the injectors and pumps
apparently dont hold up well under the added pressure.

id ask your dealers to check the oil cooler while the things apart to see
if they can determine if theres any blockage.....certainly its worth the time,
and it might avoid repeat egr cooler replacement.

Thanks for the info. The truck is BONE STOCK and has 78,638 miles when I took it in. Warranty will cover it. The dealer said that the warranty will cover anything that causes the CEL light to come on.

understood...but they apparently havent been checking the oil coolers
as a contributor of the problem.

most dealers that ive read about and encountered dont do anything
more than remove the broken part and replace it...hence the large number
of re-occuring turbos being replaced...most techs dont look beyond the
bad part <either up stream or down stream> to determine if anything is
CAUSING the part to fail.

the way to check and see if the oil cooler is flowing properly is to watch ect and eot. if they are off more than 20 degrees, the oil cooler passages are restricted and will cause repeat egr cooler failures.

good info...but MOST cant check this w/ out some kinda OB2/CAN
scanner...and to my knowledge the temps arent stored <historically>.

by the time you NOTICE a problem its too late to check (cause the cooler
is already cracked or leaking)

When I had to have my heads replaced at 68k, I insisted that my EGR cooler and oil cooler be replaced. They did it and installed my ARP heads studs. 15k with no problems so far. But I insisted on them changing everything while it was torn down. I told them that I didn't buy this truck only to have it sitting at the dealer all of the time chasing the same problems.

Well Bama, it seems that tey are starting to switch out parts to fix something in the PCM. I got a call today saying that they are waiting on the PCM and will install it as soon as they can. Now it is going downhill FAST (the stories). The rental POS van is going to cost me as much as getting the truck fixed.:cussing:

Hey Dave;

How long in between oil changes did you go? The recommended 7500 miles?
When I changed my oil the other day at 5,000 miles between changes, the oil looked very used. I think I am going to use 5,000 miles as the time to change the oil. I hope they come up with a good fix for the 6.0 egr cooler problems, so your truck and all of our trucks last 300,000 plus miles.
