Robert, that soft shot you describe is definitely a case of "pop but no bang" you were extremely lucky. I have seen people catch shrapnel from not recognizing it and the barrel came apart when they fired the second shot, not just bulged. Of course every case I have seen involves a M-4 and the pressures are a lot higher.
Glad to see you weren't hurt!

under the cheddar curtain
so the slide jammed on the swell of the barrel on the backstroke?

that is the kind of thing that you cut the end of the barrel off and put it on your key chain to remind you constantly to be vigilant.

i would send it to a smith for rework. the barrel might drop in, but it may not function right. new barrel might need to be fitted to the gun.

darned plastic guns.

EDIT: "thinking like an engineer, DP" they make pills for that....

the barrel got stuck at the end of the slide where the hole is for the barrel to pass through,
i tried the pills :tounge

dave the barrel before the bulge is .522, at the bulge it is .545, looks alot worse than it is , :(
just means i have to take the colt to the range this week instead of the Springfield :watchout

speaking of which.... did you call the guy about the thing?
which guy?
you know the guy?
the guy about the thing :stir

we would love to have you join up

as far as no pop cartridges....I have added a QA step in my load procedures.
every built up cartridge gets a weight check.
i cannot imagine how a round got through without enough powder, or maybe the primer was defective. :dunno
as was each cartridge got a hand wipe down and inspection, but my old hands cant feel the weight of 6.5 grains of powder :(

yep i feel very fortunate the barrel took the brunt and nothing came flying apart.:dizzy
the barrel swelled .023 at the bulge

it's visible..
even my rotten eyes can see it..

that's whay I use a turret press instead of a progressive...
I throw my own powder charges, and each one gets an eyeball check in the loading tray, every fifth gets dumped in the scale...
