No Horn or Cruise Control

I was driving home today and noticed that, out of the blue, my horn AND my cruise control don't work now.

I check all the fuses inside and under the hood. They're all good. I pulled the horn pad off, and made sure everything was still connected, then jiggled the wires while trying to blow the horn, still wouldn't work.

It doesn't seem like it's getting power.

Anybody have any ideas???

In the fuse box under the hood there is a horn fuse #3 30A and a horn relay #3 (middle square relay on right column). You checked them both? You may have an open horn circuit or damaged component. Speed control/horn switch assembly?

The fuse is good. I checked that.

How do you check for a bad relay?

Will it be obvious?

Thanks! :hail

Sounds to me like you probably just need to take the steering wheel off and clean the contacts. All the cruise switches and I think even the horn go through a metal on metal contact so they can move without cuttin the wires up.
Pull the wheel, clean the contacts and lue em up with some dielectric and I bet you are back in business.;)

Just have to do it, that little burnout icon cracks me up...

I just cleaned that thing up and put the dielectric grease on it a couple of months ago.

It worked great and stopped squeaking for a while. I wonder what happened???

You can check a relay by simply switching it with another like relay, of a function that you know works. just my :2c

I just thought about this, so I'll throw this out there also.

I just installed a new chip about the same time this stuff quit.

Could a chip cause this?

Thanks!

Doubtful that the chip did it, but you could pull it and see?

The wiper relay would be a good canidate. They are the same.

Dave

Per the owner's manual:

Relay 5 (top relay) not used
Relay 4 Trailer tow lamps
Relay 3 Horn
Relay 2 IDM relay
Relay 1 (bottom relay) Powertrain control system

Wiper relay?
