This modification will allow the user to increase the idle speed of the 6.0 diesel engine to 1200 rpms with a switch. The switch is a simple spst switch (single pole, single throw). Looking under the driver’s dash, above the parking brake is a few wires that are used for various functions. These wires are tied to the main harness with about 3 inches showing and are terminated with shrink tubing. One of these wires is the PTO (Power Take OFF) wire, it is Blue with a White stripe. Placing +12v to this wire will cause the engine to idle up to 1200 rpms if the transmission is in Park (auto) or neutral (manual). The wire that can be used to power this switch is located above the throttle and behind the data port connector. This wire is White in color. Hook these two wires to a switch and you will be able to have high idle when the switch is thrown.

The idea is to keep the engine at a higher operating temperature than the normal idle. Does it really work? I am not too sure, but I use it to warm up my truck on these cold mornings. I can get heat from the heater in 4 or 5 minutes. You are never going to eliminate idling. Don't worry too much about it, just do your part. I am glad you got it working. It is EASY.

WD - thanks for that body builder link, useful... (I had posted a question on how to do this, before I found this thread! )

Any thoughts as to why they used a switch for an external relay instead of a double pole switch alone? I see that the other pole is used to feed another relay.
