Just an update on my belt issue-
Ford just released this bulletin on the matter:
Updated: 4-14-06
Belt Noise/Chirp/Squeal on Cold Start-up:
This concern is currently under investigation. Verify that the belt is not frayed and is tracking true, and there are no obvious pulley concerns. If...
Forget that shop! I did the same as bushpilot and wiped mine down with brake cleaner, so far- it hasn't produced anymore drips. I'm learning to be patient with this truck because each time I've found something that I thought was a serious problem, it turned out to be "normal"
I buy mine at a station here in Kansas City. Check out National Biodiesel Board - www.biodiesel.org - www.nbb.org
It has some good info on biodiesel and where you can buy it.
I get filters from www.dieselfiltersonline.com
This site also has step by step pdf's and tips on oil changes and filter replacement. Click on the "View Guide" link in any of the product pages to pull up the pdf. Those are pretty helpful and have pictures-
This site has some great info too-...
Thanks for the reply dieselpilot! I'll have them check that.
Kleetus- with the tires I have on, sometimes it feels like I loose PS in parking lots. Specifically if I'm turning the wheel on a rough surface without rolling at all. If I'm rolling (even slightly) there isn't a problem. I...
Each time they put a new belt on, I get about 2,000 miles out of it and then it starts making some noise again. Once the motor warms, it goes away but its a persistant chirp for about 10-15 miles.
Kleetus-
I have only driven it about 300 miles on the factory tires- The dealer installed the...
Just a quick update on this-
Took my truck to the dealer for the 5th time on this belt issue. In insisted on this visit they have a Ford engineer come in and look. Their report back to me was that Ford is aware of the problem but has NO fix for it at this time. I’m supposed to call in 1...
It’s an 06 with about 10,000 miles now. I just noticed it so its possible that is been down there since new. I’ll clean it up and see if it continues. If so, I’ll definitely be visiting the dealer to keep things documented on it. Many thanks for the replies!
thanks for the reply bushpilot,
yeah, i'm not worried about the intercooler boots since that's normal.
the oil underneath the motor is more worrisome but sounds like a common problem. I’ll have it looked at next time I’m over at the dealer.
Thanks DaveBen,
ya- I'd guess BAND-AID's don't make good gaskets. Just curious how common/serious a little “seepage” is. It doesn’t appear to be much. I’ll have the techs look at it next time I’m over at the dealer. Thanks again!
No I don't know how it all works, that's why I'm here- to try and learn some things.
Do the 6.0's have a CCV like the 7.3's? Is there some mod or filter you can put on there to keep the oily residue from building up in the intercooler? Thanks for your expertise
Can the CCV mod be done on a 6.0? I've looked around and all the posts I found refer to this mod on the 7.3's. I’ve got some oil coming out of the lower boot that attaches to the intercooler. The funny thing is, it’s fairly clear looking- could this be oil from the turbo? The truck only has...
