My last post- F350 6.4 at 144,000 miles

Wanted to add-- a typical day for the 350 was to drive about 300 miles a day - sometimes much more, sometimes less. Typically picking up a load of about 1000 to 2000 pounds. On occasion maybe 3000 pounds and a few times much less than 1000. So it worked pretty good, and only saw the dealer...

My last post- F350 6.4 at 144,000 miles

I recently sold my truck and this will be my last post. 2008 F350 dually, automatic, 4.10 rear end LSD. Crew cab The truck had 144,000 miles on it. I had it since summer of 2008. Truck never broke down. I changed the oil every 10K miles and fuel filters every 10K miles. Changed air...

    DPF/EGR question

I have a 2008 F350 6.4 with 141,100 miles. Up until 140,000 I had zero problems. Just recently I have had a check engine light come on, but after restarting the problem went away. I only need to clear the code (P0088) and see if it happens again. I do not tow. Ever. I only haul 1000 to...

how do I clear check engine light

So I'm gonna try to simply disconnect black and red cables from both batteries. When I reconnect do I connect reds forst then blacks last? Any particular order with dual batteries? Also-- I will also change fuel filters-- I've been noticing a lot of gunk and sand coming out when I drain the...

how do I clear check engine light

Right.. Ford wanted 90.00. My friend there actually suggested AutoZone in order to simply get the codes so he could look them up for me. My nearest Ford dealer is backed up with Super Duty repairs (they only have two bays for them.) My local Autozone only scans the codes and can't do the reset.

how do I clear check engine light

Is there a way I can clear the codes from the ECU so the check engine goes out? Trying to do this myself. I tried to disconnect batteries (both black cables) for about 10 minutes but no luck-- oddly enough, the radio did not lose the presets. Thanks david

    P0088

Well- what is the best way to clear the check engine light? Disconnect bot negative cables? For a certain amount of time? My truck is running fine. When the light first came on, the truck was running as I described above. Since then, after a restart it's been fine. I think the check engine...

    P0088

The code that came up when my check engine light came on was P0088 This is on my 2008 F350 6.4 with 140,200 miles. The truck is running fine, but when the light first came on the truck was running rough during acceleration and was having a hard time shifting to overdrive. After I stopped...

    EGR replacement

oh-- and can someone get me started by describing exactlywhere the EGR is?? IS it fairly small? Sounds like it may do what a PCV valve does on a gasoline engine.

    EGR replacement

ok-- THANKS. I'm bringing in the truck for a check-up. My check engine light came on last week and stays on. I disconnected the batteries and waited a few minutes. Hooked them back on and restarted. Check engine light still on. Initially when the light came on, the truck was running...

    EGR replacement

Hi, If the EGR needs to be replaced, how big a job is it? Do the EGR's on 2008 Super Duty Diesels get replaced often or can they be simply cleaned and reinstalled? David 2008 F350 6.4 140,200 miles.

    CB antenna's

Yeah- I have a browning antenna (1/4 wave) for my basic Uniden CB. My antenna was "tuned" by the installer. The mounted it, trimmed a bit of antenna off, and made the SWR as good as it could get. Placement on antennas is key. Mine is directly on top of the cab. I have really good reception...

    2008 F350 hits 112,000 miles

Picked up the truck a few couple days ago. It was the upper radiator hose where it goes to the engine. The o-ring was leaking. Part replaced plus 1 gallon of coolant. Total cost-- 280.00 including taxes. Upper radiator hose is nearly 90.00. 165.00 in labor. Yuck!

    2008 F350 hits 112,000 miles

I have a feeling it's the upper hose. I'd ask what the repair cost was but I'm sure was covered under warranty. How long did it take to do the repair? Was it a one day repair?? They didn't need to raise the cab off the rails did they?

    2008 F350 hits 112,000 miles

I had a job3 truck, already had the T mod. The mechanics can see where the drip is coming from- on top the engine. It's either a cooling line going into the EGR or the top radiator hose. It's hard for them to see it at the moment, so until they run a presure test and get it in the shop, I...

    2008 F350 hits 112,000 miles

No problems with radiator before. But I find it ironic that the leak has appeared just a couple of weeks after the coolant was flushed at the Ford dealer. Maybe they didn't tighten down on something?? I'll find out in a couple days. Goes in tomorrow. I just hope it isn't a leaking water...

    2008 F350 hits 112,000 miles

I just hit 112,000 miles after about 11 months of use. I've been averaging nearly 16mpg (4.11 rear end). My truck is nearly 100% highway, and I usually drive about 60-65 mpg on the highway- I'm a slow driver. I try to keep the rpms at 2000, for good mileage. I don't pull a trailer but I...

    balancing tires on F350

Yeah I know. PITA. But the dealer did the job correctly. I still cannot believe the shops around here don't have the correct parts. The local shop balanced my tires and insisted they came out perfectly balanced, but they were even worse than before. Brought to Ford and now there is no...

    balancing tires on F350

I have the stock steel wheels on my 350 dually. They seem hard to balance. A couple tire shops said they need a special adapter to get the wheel to center properly. They tell me to go to Ford. I called Ford and they say they do have the special adapter. Another Ford dealer said they are...

    Clogged drain at fuel filter

Now that's a good idea. I have the hose. Thinking about using a big syringe I have in the pantry (I use it to inject seasonings in chicken/turkey) to draw out the fluid. Don't worry I won't reuse it for food ;) David BTW- did you notice the 3 screws where the drain valve is...

    Clogged drain at fuel filter

Hoping someone can chime in... I need to change my filters and hope to figure out if I can remove the separator valve assembly simply by removing the three screws. I'm sure this would allow the fuel to flow out completey. But I want to make sure I don't end up with a part removed that I can't...

    Clogged drain at fuel filter

I have a bit of debris blocking my water drain under the fuel filter housing (the one under the truck). When I rotate the drain, the fuel dribbles out very slowy. I pushed a small wire into the opening and the fuel dribbled out at a better rate- but not like it should. I noticed there are...

    types of coolant

Thanks very much. I looked up the Ford spec required and it is WSS-M97B51-A1. I looked up this spec at the Peak web site and found the Peak Global Lifetime 50/50 or 100% strength meets this spec. It is also amber colored and not orange. So I'll likely go with this stuff. Thanks!
