Ok the reason I asked is that the muffler shop I like to use, has had a sign stating that they won't cut cats out due to the $10K EPA fine*, so don't ask.

I don't know if it's up in his new shop, but I recall seeing it at his old shop 2-3 years ago or so.

Muffler delete he will do, for $50. For that price, it's almost not worth letting him do it.

Thanks,

Al

* Number I recall on the sign, have no idea if it's based on reality or not.

Leave the CAT can and remove the insides?

I am new to this, but doesn't the CAT contain a ceramic honeycomb that can be broken out with a steel rod? I would prefer to have the CAT can still there and just not attract attention that it is missing. I did this with a gas CAT awhile ago but I do not know anything about a diesel CAT. Any ideas?

the cat does indeed contain the platinum coated honeycomb.
Ive met some that have "rodded" 'em out...but the problem w/ that
is if you EVER REALLY need it youll be left to buy a new one (not like
you probably couldnt find a dozen of 'em laying on the floor of any
diesel performance shop).

I havent had my cat in place for more than a couple years...the truck
is inspected EVERY year & not ONCE has anyone EVER looked under
the truck.

Ive had the truck in for warrenty repair(s)/tsb's twice....each time
ive un-bolted my MBRP test pipe & bolted the cat back in place...its
a 15min job @ best.

the test pipe fits a stock OE system too (i used my test pipe on a
friends truck, while i borrowed his cat for a service/repair).

the MBRP test pipe is available from DPPI for 55 bucks...

heres a pic of the test pipe (two bolts one end & a clamp on the other)

order it from DPPI HERE <theyre a sponsor, have great customer service,
they drive 6.0L Fords & use what they sell, and
they WONT be beat on price ever>

I have a Banks Monster Exhaust installed. I had the local muffler shop install it. The original CAT tube assembly needed to be cut and clamped to the bigger exhaust down tube. I have not crawled under there recently (Michigan Winter) but I guess I could cut and modify the "Test Tube" to fit. Wonder if the Muffler guys would do it? Doesn't hurt to ask.

Glad I read the small print:

"The MBRP test/delete pipe slips into the factory system after the removal of the converter bolts on to the lower half of the MBRP down pipe. The MBRP test/delete pipe is NOT designed to fit the stock Ford down pipe." (emphasis added)

it might not be DESIGNED to do it but it DOES...ive PERSONALLY
done it w/ OUT any modification to the factory down pipe !
