OK, that makes a lot more sense.I've also noticed a few others that apparently drive about 70 mph, that are getting roughly 18 mpg as well. Although Idon't knowif they are stock.

3.55's for around town can only make the mpg's worse,I'd even call that dog gearing:doh:

Why 70 mph,, is because for our stock truck, 70 mph is 2000 rpm.
2000 rpm is maximum torque, and getting 18.5 mpg.

Best mpg rpm is about 1800 rpm. On rural roads doing 55-60 mph we got 21 mpg on a 200 mile trip.

Anything under 70 mph, and you can get killed on the freeway in California.

It seems that most of our stock trucks are getting 18 plus mpg at 2000 rpm.

Mine is stock and I try to keep it under 2K RPM's, even locally on takeoffs. Another way to improve mileage is to keep the engine speed the same, just as the "big truckers" drive.

the sweet spot mpg wise is 1800 and youre STILL in the
power band....anything over 2k rpm and your mpg drops and continues
to drop (w/ an increase of rpm) QUICKLY !

Ok, thanks to all. I'll try to force my truck to stay at 1800 rpms. I dont know what speed that's going to work out to yet though. My truck has 285/75-16s with 3.73 gears and a dealer recalibration for the tires. So I'll try it on the way to work tomorrow and see what speed 1800 rpms work out to be.
