By running a crew-cab you get enough wheelbase for towing but then adding a shortbed rather than a longbed you gain a little turning radius. I personally think the shortbed dually is a great tow rig. I don't need one since all I have is a 21' boat and a smaller wells-cargo trailer both of which my SRW F350 and my SRW F150 will tow just fine but if I got a big-ol fifth wheel travel trailer I would be looking at a SB Dually. Just think how much better it would be for getting around town and sight-seeing after you drop the trailer off at the local rv park.
