    thanks Joe, I have a case of torco full synthetic ATF and I will give it a try. it says it exceeds mercon specs.

    well I finally narrowed it down to the starter had an excessive load when cranking. I am still going to check the ipr, but currently am changing the oil filter housing. do you have to remove the exhaust manifold??? to reinstall it??
