    well I tested a few things this morning, and either the new starter mounted solenoid was junk out of the box, I dunno. put the new starter on it. it fired right up with the key. and we dropped to -24°F last night. my Truck runs again!

    I will have to pull them after they are finished charging and take them to the parts store to be tested. I checked the dates on them and they are 08/08, not that it means one didn't take a crap. if they did they have a 3 year full exchange on them so that will be a cheap fix.

    I do need to find out whats drawing the batteries down. that will take some help from the wife and she's at work. I had 12.5 volts on the power side of the solenoid relay on the fender.

    correct me if I am wrong here? Why would you have to take it out of gear with a manual. Keeping it in gear would insure the engine is turnign the ps pump which means you have brakes and steering. you can down shift for more steering power as your speeds slow down.

    10 or more years ago I would agree with the parts from the big parts chains, but now they are from countries which make them so cheap the quaility is not there like it used to be. I would rather buy a new part every 5-7 years then have to replace the lifetime part every 2 years.

    those ford seals can be bought from any spicer dealer for about a 1/3 of the ford price. same parts, alot cheaper. ;)

    I always check them before I hit the road. I had "D" rated but I am stepping up to the "E" rated as I need to replace them. front axle is "E". rear is still "D"

    I dunno what the tie rods are running but those bal joints, and new seals are definatly under $200 for everything to do both sides.

    plus, axle shaft seals, gear oil, gonna have to remove the carrier to do it properly.... then when you look at the bearings your going to want to replace them any ways. ;)

    Reuse Hitch Bolts??

    as a fastener point of view, they technically should only be used once. once torqued they will stretch, re-using them can stretch them past thier yeild point and cause a failure. Now really what are new bolts going to run you? $10.00 at a fastener shop for the proper grade?

    been carrying the spare CPS for over 30k now, truck just turned 96k on the clock. I do some long trips and for the sake of knowing I have one it makes the trips easier. Sure gets hot out in the desert on a summer day.

    thats not a dana 125 it is a dana S-135. all the 550's have them, dunno about the 450's

    only big difference in the 1025 and 1050 is the bearings and the pinion has longer splines I beelive on the 1050. you can swap parts back and forth and they will work in either housing.
