I live in Sanford,NC. I talked to a buddy of mine yesterday and he knows of someone with a reader and is supposed to find out something for me today. We were even talking about buying one if it came down to it.Not sure of which one to get if we did?

Just make sure your code reader can read CAN as Ford uses CAN for communications to the port.

I think i have the wrong cps? Dealership gave me F7TZ-12k073-A and from what ive seen thats for a 97-up. Mine should be #F6T0-12K073-A for a 96.It was built 11/95. Could this be the problem? I just read another thread that says almost the same thing which got me checking the part numbers and three diffrent sites have the first one listed for 97-up psd.

Wanted to see what you guys thought before i had to go buy another cps (doubt they'll take the other one back)

OK,

Here are the PN#'s for the CPS and you can see there is a difference between the years. However, a CPS that is for a 97 will function just fine in a 96. The only difference between the two is what the pin material is made of. Some say using a CPS for the wrong year can lead to corrosion between the two different metallurgys. But as far as function goes, they are interchangable.
