sounds like you got my old '77 in your drive way. the starter solinoid is bad about not clickin on to the starter. just like you everything works exept the starter. see if the wires going to it are all connected securely.
simple way if you have a test light. attach the + from the witch to one end of the test light and the - ground to the other end. if the light works chances are your solinoid is bad if it don't you got an elec. problem. either ground, which if your gauges work isnt likely, or the positive. maybe...
if you can, use a lighter and heat the end up just enough to make it soft, not on fire, then shove the T in to it. i know it sounds dumb but believe me it work's
