    Starter Options

Thanks for the information Brandon. It sounds like I couldn't really go wrong with an Alliant starter if they are an OEM. And I agree with you that any country can make good or bad products. But all and all, my experience with products made in China has not been overly impresive, to say the...

    Starter Options

Hello All, I would really appreciate some advise on a replacement starter. I put a Super Duty starter (two hole mount) from DB Electrical in my '97 Heavy Duty (three hole mount) a few years ago and I really like the faster turnover speed and it has worked great- so far. But I am pretty sure...

    Fuel Leak

Thanks DOC-MX. I was able to determine that the fuel was coming from the weep hole so I have replaced the pump. End of problem- HOPEFULLY! Thanks again to everyone for your suggestions. Pete

    Fuel Leak

Thanks to everyone for your quick responce. The fuel is only at the back end of the pump- it is quite dry in front of it. As per Patrick's advise I will check the torque of the banjo bolt. If it is the weep hole, and I think it is, what does that mean? Is the pump about to fail? If that is the...

    Fuel Leak

I have a fuel leak that is causing fuel to pool up in the back of the valley underneath the large bolt that attaches the fuel lines to the fuel pump. I don't see any obvious signs of where the fuel is leaking from but I am thinking the fuel pump itself. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance, Pete

    No Fan?

I always kept the fan and wrench in the truck just in case I needed it. Good idea! Pete

    No Fan?

Thanks for the information, big rooster; i have been thinking that it wouldn't be a problem. I guess that there is only one way to find out! Pete

    No Fan?

I have been contemplating removing my fan and operating the truck with no fan at all. I have heard of converting to electric fans, but I'm not sure if it is worth the effort since I live in a fairly cold climate. Are any of you running with no fan? If so, any overheating problems? Thanks in...

    Spring Replacement

Thanks for the information, Richard and Robert. I have been wondering about the bushings as well and have heard quite a bit about the polyurethane bushings. Don't they give a harsher ride? Pete

    Spring Replacement

Hey gang. For most of the 118,000 miles or so on the ticker, my truck has carried a 2,700# camper down many a bumpy road. So I cannot help but think that the original springs may need to be replaced. There is no obvious problem with them, but perhaps the ride has slowly deteriorated over the...

    97 dashboard

I took my dash apart a couple of years ago for the same reason. It was pretty straight forward, and I don't recall any special tricks once it is unbolted and the headlamp knob is removed. I replaced all of the bulbs while I had it apart and I used some long life bulbs so if I am lucky, I won't...

    Coolant Can O' Worms!

Thanks, Craig, that is the article that started me thinking about using an ELC. I have decided to have someone else do the work for me (since it is between 0 and 10 degrees where I live). This mechanic, who does have a lot of experience with Powerstrokes, is dead set AGAINST using ELC in the...

    Coolant Can O' Worms!

I am fully aware of what I am opening up here, but I'm going to do it anyway! My water pump is puking coolant, the metal input pipe is so rusty that coolant is leaking out of it as well, and I'm sure that it is time to replace all of the hoses. So..... the coolant will of course also need to be...

HELP!!Oil Spewing Out Rear End of Left Head

Hey Ward- I had the same problem a couple of years ago and it turned out to be a pretty easy fix. I used a fex-head 1/2" drive to remove/replace the plug and that worked very well (there was not much room between the plug and the firewall). Just be aware that there will still be some oil in the...

    Rear Differential Fill Plug

Rich (94f450sd) gets the gold star on this one. One of the quick change places replaced the factory 3/8 square plug with a 3/8 allen. Thanks for the help, gang! Pete

    Rear Differential Fill Plug

That is EXACTLY what I think! But a 50 is too small and a 55 is too big. I'm not aware that torx bolts came in odd sizes (51, 52, 53, etc.). I am going to head down to the last place that changed the fluid, perhaps they can help me out. Thanks again for the replies! Pete

    Rear Differential Fill Plug

Then perhaps I have an allen plug, but it looks too "star" shaped to be an allen plug. I have had the fluid changed three times over the years at "quick change" places so perhaps one of those places pulled a fast one on me! I was wondering if this was a "special" Ford plug that requires a...

    Rear Differential Fill Plug

Okay, I give up!! -mad I am in the process of changing my transfer case, front differential and rear differential lube to Amsoil lubricants. I was able to change the transfer case and front differential without a problem, but I cannot find the proper tool to remove the rear differential fill...

    Nitro Shocks

I am currently using Rancho 9000's and and I am really not impressed. The adjustment knobs/valves began to get strange within a few months and I didn't really notice much of a ride/handling improvement over the stock shocks. I have Bilsteins on my other vehicle (4 Runner) and the seals didn't...
