    That is exactly how the knob came off on my 2005...I pulled it straight off the stick. That is it...it is not screwed on, just some tight splines. My 87 Ranger was the exact same way, as was the 89 F250 my dad used to have. I replaced the stock knob with a cue ball that I drilled to fit.

    Interesting Question about MPG

    You may check but most auto parts stores have the waste oil recovery tanks...at least they do here...I would just fill the old jugs back up and bring them in once in a while. One of the last times I took oil in, I had about 15 gallons. I sure did get some looks from the counter monkeys.

    Im pretty sure that both ESOF hubs and the manual lockouts look very similar anyway. I think that on the ESOF, the positions are auto and lock. I'm not going to swear to that though...never messed with the autos before.
