good news, bad news

good news,
I took one of our electrical engineers down to my truck during lunch and tore into the window switches. The button/switchs don’t have any thing to do with the windows other than toggle. The window functions are all controlled by the pcb and actuators imbedded in the board.
bad news…
It would take a re-design of the pcb to accomplish what we want….
Oh well, it was worth a shot

I did find wire diagrams that showed wired switches before we tore into the panel which got my hopes up. Found out later they were for older trucks

well, it made for a good topic. maybe it will show up on the fords someday. i would really love automatic up & down on all windows. maybe we could get our rides pimped and west coast customs or chip foose can make it happen.

And ???:D

Ok the guys at webelectric say their modules DO
work on our trucks
(and instructions are included)
...they say they have been used by other
"superduty" owners and that its a popular request.

they even go so far as to say others have applied
it to the REAR windows on crewcabs.

they DONT tell me which module or how many i need...
so im waiting again :( for that information, before i
order mine.

Ok some disappointing news from webelectric....

the module is a FORD oem 1touch...the same thing thats
ON our truck NOW.

you would need ONE 29 dollar module for every window that you
wanted to control (dont need one for the front, since theres already
one there).

so its really 3x 29 bucks..and thats for ONE DIRECTION ONLY...down or
up ! if you want one touch UP *AND* down youll need TWO
modules for each windown (one for up and another for down).

there are reportedly problems when applying these ford modules to
the UP *AND* DOWN...i was told that sometime the modules get "confused"
and take 3-4seconds (which would SUCK if it were raining & trying to
get the window UP...OR if you were at a toll both and were trying to
get a window DOWN !)

Knowing what the module is now im gonna try and see what i can do
about finding some cheaper...

one way down can be had for all windows...assuming you already
have it on the drivers window...just buy a OTD (one touch down)
module for each window....you should be able to buy these "modules"
from any ford dealer

Im curious what could be so expensive in these modules..it cant
be more than a relay that is current sensing (like a circuit breaker)....
it allows current to flow until the load increases (full down/no window
movement) and then releases the current.

that was my original thought, that you could change out the switch and install a new one. i will check with my ford dealer tomorrow and see if they can order them individually and how much. thanks again.:sweet :thanks :thumbs :) ;) :D
