Once again nice looking rig Stephen. And yes that is pretty much what running the overhead means. They will check the clearance in the valves exhaust and intake. Depending on what type of injectors you will also check these. Not to sure what all you do on a Cat, but that is what you would do on an 855 Cummins.

At 100k they suggest running the overhead on the engine.

You should get the overhead run by a qualified tech that really pays attention to detail before 30K. The guys up here that have adjusted early have had a little less trouble with broken rocker arms. They still have trouble but fine tuning the overhead does seem to help a little. Getting all the valves set close to each other also seems to reduce the hot spots in the exhaust that are causing the turbo bolts to fail. Be sure to find a guy that really cares about what he does as it will take about twice as long to get them all right on as where most guys just do a quick run through like they did in the old days.

Thanks for the good advise Crumm. So what do you think of the truck as a whole complete unit?

We did find out yesterday that the trailer and head ramp manuf. installed an air lift kit on this truck. you can boost air to the drive axle air bags and the trailers, and it will lift it up about 6 to 8 inches. the reason for this is to be able to clear over high spots in the road, curbs, and so the trailer wont drag in big dips. pretty cool set-up.

we had the lift kit on our other trailers that we parked, but didnt know they started installing them on the truck too. also by raising the truck along with the trailer, you keep a good level pitch at the fifth wheel connection.

Looks good :sweet other than the color of the engine ;)

Be sure the lift switch has a indicator light or buzzer on it. If the driver heads out down the road with it in the up position the u-joints will not be happy. I have seen the results of improper suspension height and a driveline laying in the ditch is not a good thing. Also make sure after lowering it back down that the leveling valve is still properly adjusted as overextending them will sometimes change the ride height.

speaking of drivelines, something to check.

only ever had this problem (as in major OOOPPPSIE) on a pete, and one was a car hauler

if your short shaft (between the diffs) is bolt-in ujoints instead of press in type, DON'T DRIVE ANY FARTHER THAN ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY with the bags down. if you/he does have to drive with the bags down, no farther than you have to.

pete's have tall air bags, and when their dropped, the ujoints bind and will hit the bolt heads and bend/break them off, and throw the shaft. (trust me on this!!) even worse would be if they just got bent, and broke, say while taking off loaded thru an intersection?

We understand and thanks for the tips.

You gotta keep the pitch right on the drive lines at all times. The lift kit system is only to be used when faced with huge dips in the road or going over tall RXR crossings.

They stay lifted for no more than a few seconds.

lifted up isn't the problem, it's when it's dropped all the way down.

it probably won't ever be a problem, but i got bit by it twice towing wrecked petes, and that rig is WAAAAAY to sharp not to mention it.

A few more updated pics. Still waiting on the cab & sleeper lights to come in.

We just put on the stainless steel Peterbilt Rock shields.
